A Moment With Pastor Fred

I hope you have made plans to stay for our potluck after our service. Last year our meal was canceled so it is a special treat to be able to enjoy each other around the table. After the service we’ll need help bringing down tables and rearranging the chairs – not to mention setting up the buffet line out in the foyer. 

The Annual Business Meeting will follow. Budgets and nominees need to be affirmed. We will review our strategic plan as well – 2022 is the middle year. Let’s remember biblical ministry cannot be reduced to being measured by graphs or charts like you would a McDonald’s restaurant. Visible results are not always an indication of God’s blessing.

Bodies, bucks and buildings are not accurate measurements. Years ago, Kent and Barbara Hughes’ book, “Liberating  Ministry from the Success Syndrome” was a huge help to me as a young pastor. They defined biblical success as: 

• Faithfulness
• Serving
• Loving
• Believing
• Prayer
• Holiness
• Attitude

It is my prayer – and I know it is yours too that HBC be all that God desires her to be.  Let us strive to see these qualities demonstrated in our lives and here at church.
