A Moment With Pastor Fred
It seems appropriate on this Mother’s Day for me to address the situation regarding the leaked draft from the Supreme Court. The violation of confidentiality is a great concern. The draft could change but if the majority opinion remains it is a good day in the protection of the life of the unborn.
If the ruling stands this won’t outlaw abortion necessarily but will put the debate back on the states to decide. It’s going to get ugly. Don’t believe the misleading media coverage as this is a regression of women’s rights. Our governor has already denounced the decision vowing that women in our state will continue to have full access to abortion. Right to Life in Michigan, in a newsletter last month, foresaw this fight. You need to be warned. A new coalition of pro-abortion allies have created the “Reproduction Freedom Act.” Their goal is to collect enough signatures to put a state constitution amendment on the November ballot. If passed the new law would allow unrestricted abortion-on-demand, throughout the 9 months of pregnancy, along with undermining parental authority.
This has been trumpeted as a political issue, and it has become that for many, but even more importantly for the Christian it is a moral issue. We need to continue to pray for the unborn and even those who are blinded by darkness. Laws can prohibit abortion – but unless the heart is changed, unless one is under the authority of Christ, abortion will not go away. We live in this world, but not of this world. We are sent into the world to be Christ’s ambassadors to share the good news of the gospel to a lost and dying world.
