A Moment With Pastor Fred
Happy New Year!
One of the most important spiritual disciplines is regular Bible reading. I am thankful as a middle school student – probably in the 8th grade I started the habit of personal devotions. There are days where my “God & I” time is off, but that’s to my spiritual detriment. And I notice when I miss – and so does Susan.
To aid our church family in their personal Bible reading we make available each year daily Bible reading schedules. I like the one which allows me to read a different part of Scripture each day. If you follow this schedule you can read thru the Bible in one year. Sue and I just did that – well, we actually “listened” to the Bible from an app on our phones. There’s nothing mystical about doing it in a year. But it is a nice accomplishment.
The important thing is to be in God’s Word on a regular basis. It saddens me there are believers who rarely pick up the Bible during their week. The old children’s song is true – read your Bible, pray every day and you grow, grow, grow. Neglect your Bible, forgot to pray and you shrink, shrink, shrink.
As the year begins why not purpose to establish a personal devotional time in 2023. Let’s be a people of the Book as we read it and practice it. John Bunyan well said, “This Book will keep you from sin or sin will keep you from this Book.”
