Just A Moment With Pastor Fred
Lunch is on us! Even if you’re not a member please stay for our potluck luncheon. Our annual business meeting follows but you need to eat somewhere, so why not stay and enjoy the fellowship of God’s people?
Speaking of which – after the service of February 12 there’s another opportunity to enjoy each other’s company. Our Chili-Cookoff will be held, this time we’ll meet upstairs in the Fellowship Hall. We go to great lengths to create opportunities for God’s people to be together. Church is more than Sunday mornings. Sign up at the kiosk table to bring a crockpot of chili or a side dish. I believe there will be several categories too – white chili or red. Judges will be selected to do a blind taste test. It’s a lot of fun and once again – an occasion to enjoy Christian fellowship. What a nice time to break up the “winter blues.”
I really never watched the 1980s TV show Cheers – about a tavern’s patrons. The show’s theme song though always spoke volumes to me – Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name and they’re always glad you came; You want to be where you see, troubles are all the same. You want to go where everybody knows your name. Cheers is the world’s substitution for the church – or what the church should be. No, we don’t cry in each other’s beer, but we must provide Christian fellowship.
Fellowship isn’t an activity – fellowship is relationships. It is through our union with Christ that we’re related to others in the family of God. Authentic fellowship is grounded in our belonging to each other. We often hear how HBC feels like a family. I love that. That’s what we must be – God’s family.
