A Moment With Pastor Fred
Every year at this time we challenge daily Bible reading. How are you doing in your daily devotions? There are countless ways to read our Bibles but on the kiosk in the foyer is a schedule which enables you to read the Bible through in a year – a noble goal. I’ve used this schedule a number of times and found it profitable. If you’ve never read the Bible through in a year, why not in 2026?
Reading God’s Word on a regular basis is essential for spiritual growth. I am thankful that habit was instilled in me as a young teen. Yes, I’ve had times when it was a struggle and there still are days when I miss, but we must never quit reading. Devotionals have their place but there is no substitute for the Word itself. The Through the Bible in a Year takes about 15-20 minutes of your time. I have been listening to the Bible on my I-Phone this year.
Of all the one-year formats I’ve seen I like this one best for it spreads out the Scriptures over the week. For example: you read the Psalms on Sundays, Pentateuch on Mondays … the Gospels on Fridays, etc. Maybe you desire a new method of reading this year. No problem. The important thing is that we incorporate Bible reading into a regular habit of life. And don’t forget – we must always practice what we read. Bible study is fruitless unless we obey it, Ja 1:22, Do not merely listen to [or read] the Word … do what is says”
John Bunyan said, “This book will keep you from sin – or sin will keep you from this book.” May we at HBC be a people of the Book!
