A Moment With Pastor Fred
Armageddon is a term President Biden used recently. It was a remark made to supporters regarding Putin’s threat to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine. The term is used today as an end-of-the-world scenario, but the biblical reference is a battle in the book of Revelation between the world’s evil forces and Christ himself.
We do live in times of insecurity. Our national crime rate has soared, the stock market continues to fall, there’s a crisis on the border, we’re still dealing with a pandemic – and we’re debating over the life of the unborn vs. the so-called rights of women. Internationally China continues to prove a menace not to mention North Korea’s missile tests and Iran’s nuclear program. And there’s the war in Ukraine. What is the world coming to? Answer – an end.
I cannot promise a world without nuclear bombs. I do know that Armageddon is a fixed event in time governed by our Sovereign Lord. Man cannot trigger it. As Sue and I watch the news she often quotes Ps 2 – Why do the nations rage? The kings of the earth set themselves against the Lord … God’s response? He who sits in the heavens laughs. I do know that whatever happens Christ will still be my Savior, the Holy Spirit my Comforter and the Father my Abba Father. I’ve been promised his presence – never will he leave me or forsake me. I love what Augustine said: “Trust the past to God’s mercy, the present to God’s love, and the future to God’s providence.”
Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, for his wrath is quickly kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.” Blessed indeed.
