A Moment With Pastor Fred
Tim Challies the Canadian pastor/blogger said everyone wants to be a part of a praying church but not many want to attend a prayer meeting. Ouch. We don’t want that to be true about HBC. Prayer is one of our core values. We have included prayer in our current strategic plan.
I first was introduced to “concerts of prayer” while attending a BASICS conference years ago. Concerts of prayer incorporate the Scriptures and song. It is important we pray Scripture. Prayer is more than petition. Yes, asking is part of praying but so is adoration, confession and thanksgiving. Concerts of prayer seek to include all of these aspects. Corporate prayer – where someone prays audibly, silent prayer and praying with others are also important. The Bible teaches we need to pray “all kinds of prayers.”
Three times in the coming summer months we’re asking the church to pray together. Yes, we can pray at home – and we should, but there is something special when the church comes together to pray. During what is normally the Sunday School hour, we will conduct concerts of prayer on the last Sundays of the month: June 25, July 30 and August 27. Three of our men will facilitate these times. Please note them on your calendar – let’s set aside 45 minutes to pray together. They will include the entire family so children will be involved too. We will though have a nursery for infants and toddlers. Yes, Julie Rizzardi needs help staffing those. Let us truly be a church that prays together. I hope to see you here at these times.
