A Moment With Pastor Fred
It is funny how you can read the Bible over the years and not see a particular verse, but then it jumps out at you. Lu 12:32 was “new” to me a few years ago. Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. It continues to provide comfort and peace today. Jesus has told me not to fear – and there’s a lot to fear these days.
Earlier in that chapter Jesus said, “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat, nor about your body, what you will put on. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing. Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds!”
Ravens, we call them crows, were unclean birds under the old covenant. What are we to consider about these dirty birds? That the Father cares for them. “Said the robin to the sparrow, ‘I should really like to know, why these anxious human beings rush about and worry so.’ Said the sparrow to the robin, ‘I think that it must be, that they have no heavenly Father who cares for you and me.’”
Cute. But Jesus didn’t die for sparrows or robins. God is not a Father to sparrows or crows. He’s our Father. And yet he cares for the birds – He feeds them. So the next time you see crows picking at roadkill why not start singing, “Great is Thy Faithfulness.” Fear not loved ones. He cares for us.
