A Moment With Pastor Fred
I want to encourage you to consider attending our Bible classes on Sundays at 9:30 am. I know we are swimming upstream here – many churches no longer have such classes for adults or children. And yet if you come at 10:30 am for our worship service, it isn’t that difficult to come an hour earlier to grow in your faith. If you have children, I urge you to bring them to Sunday School. With all the other things we do each week – two hours isn’t that much for placing yourself and your family under the Bible’s teaching.
A wonderful class is available for boys and girls taught by Cindy Price and Starla Ordiway. Joe Hart and the Moores are doing a neat video series on truth for teens. For adults, Paul Krepps next week will teach on mentoring. This is one of the initiatives in our strategic plan. What does the Bible teach about it? On November 28, Tom Davis will teach a four-part series on discernment. We live in strange times. We must develop a discerning mind to know what is true and what is wrong. Beginning in January, Matt Moore, Joe Hart, Paul Recher, Doug Troxell, Matthew Price and Joseph Cecil each will take a chapter from the book of Galatians to teach it to us. In February I plan on teaching a mini-series on the biblical way we are to process grief – and how we as a church can help others.
When I came as a candidate to HBC, I was asked several times about ABF – or Sunday School. I believe in it. I love to teach myself, but I too must sit under the teaching of God’s Word. I need it for my own soul. I am looking forward to these new classes in the days, weeks and months ahead. I plead with you as your shepherd, please make this time a priority for you and your family.
