A Moment With Pastor Fred
Here’s a good new year’s resolution. It was written by John Wesley. “Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, to all the people you can, in all the places you can, as long as ever you can.” Good advice. The Apostle Paul said it this way in Rom 12:10, “Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.” Let’s make this a goal for 2025.
Next Sunday I’m doing something my dear and godly homiletics professor said shouldn’t be done; preach from the Song of Solomon. I wondered then, “why not?” The Song is part of the sacred text and is profitable. I realize portions of the book speak of intimacy – and as always, I will be discreet. The book isn’t rated R but PG – pastoral guidance. It’s been a while since I’ve touched on marriage. So many marriages these days are in trouble. We need to hear God’s authority on the subject to help us.
Now I realize some here aren’t married. This isn’t a day to skip or use the time to write your grocery list. It is a time to hear God’s Word – we all, single, married, widowed or divorced will be asked by a relative or a friend about marriage and sex. You need to know what the Bible says – not culture or personal opinion.
I believe we are to interpret Scripture literally – we need to be leery of allegorical approaches. And yet the Lord Jesus said all Scripture points to him. The NT uses marriage as an illustration of Christ and the church. And so, this special book, this inspired book does ultimately point us to Christ. I always appreciate when you tell me you pray for me in my preaching. I would especially like prayer for this message as I work on it this week. Thank you.
