A Moment With Pastor Fred
One of our initiatives in our current strategic plan addresses the discipleship of young families. That has been a matter of prayerful brainstorming for me. This fall we will conduct a special class for parents. The best time to offer such a class we felt would be during the SS/ABF hour. From September 7 through October 19, Susan and I will facilitate a discussion on the book, Parenting, by Paul David Tripp. We will meet in Room 102.
We will read the book during the week and then discuss what we read in class. Progressive sanctification (yes, that involves parenting) takes place life-on-life – it doesn’t occur in a vacuum. Parents, Sunday School and nurseries are available for childcare. Take advantage of this opportunity. As I often say, “Sunday morning begins Saturday night.” If you’re a young parent, I encourage you to attend. There is strength in numbers – you’re not alone in this task. The book is around $15 but the interaction will be priceless. You’ll be encouraged. If one of the kids gets sick – alternate which one comes. You both don’t have to stay home. Go online to purchase a book now.
Special work behind the scenes is making this all possible. Julie Rizzardi is coordinating the nursery schedule to allow parents to attend. This might require others to fill in the gap during these 7 weeks. Mary Ann Krepps and Ronda VanSumeren are teaching Sunday School allowing Prices to attend. Thank you, Dave Drullinger, Paul Krepps, Doug Troxell and Paul Recher, for teaching in the auditorium allowing me to do this. And everyone can pray. We need to pray for our young families. How thankful we are for God’s Word, the Holy Spirit and the church to assist in this parenting task. It takes a church to raise a Christian.
