A Moment With Pastor Fred
12/6/19
One of our core values at HBC is prayer. Last summer we set aside our teaching during the ABF hour to have what we called “A Concert of Prayer.” It was well-attended. It has concerned me and others that we really don’t have a “corporate prayer time.” Yes, its included in our meetings but nothing that centers on prayer itself.
Scott Carson, my pastor brother-in-law from Wisconsin visited recently. He mentioned their church’s focus this year has been “Moving Forward on Our Knees.” I like that. Paul Krepps and I are thinking – and want your input, about having a “concert of prayer” on Wednesdays. In order to do that something must be taken off the plate. What we’re considering is not having our ladies or men’s Bible studies during the week from January thru May. Instead from 6:30-7:15pm on Wednesdays whoever is able can join us for prayer. Scriptures will be read, a song might be sung, but the emphasis is prayer. For those who wish not to drive in the dark – a similar “concert of prayer” will be held Wednesdays at 11 am (the senior mid-week study isn’t meeting this winter).
Now you know me well enough to know my love for teaching the Bible. And we do that – faithfully every Sunday at 9:30 and 10:30. Our small groups center on the Word as well. We just need to pray together more. Think about the idea. Pray about it – seriously. If we do this, we’ll evaluate it in late spring. We value prayer, therefore, we offer supplications prayer, intercession and giving of thanks as expressions of our appreciation for God and our dependence on Him.
