A Moment With Pastor Fred
Expect great things from God; attempt great things for God.” Those words were spoken by William Carey – the father of modern missions. Carey was a poor English shoemaker who was born again in 1779. Soon afterwards he began preaching in several small Baptist churches. Reading Captain Cook’s Voyages, he became convinced of the need to take the gospel to the regions beyond England. William Cary sailed for India where he ministered for over 40 years.
Mark on your calendar Wednesday, July 10 for “A Night of Missions” here at HBC. Three of our missionaries: Josh and Carissa Bell (Senegal); Dave and Jan Santos (Brazil); and Ryan and Abigal de Roos (Philippines) will be here that evening! We will share a potluck meal – ethnic dishes along with a service of singing, sharing and prayer. Each of our missionaries will be asked to present, “A Day in the Life of a Missionary” followed by a Q&A time with the three couples. This will be a highlight this summer – don’t miss out. Circle the date on your calendar now please. More details will be announced as to the potluck, etc. What a treat for us to enjoy these dear servants all at the same time.
Part of our strategic plan is an emphasis on outreach. Our Sunday morning series in Acts continually is reminding us of the great commission – not just to take the gospel around the world but also across the street.
Let us make Carey’s famous words our own – “Expect great things from God; attempt great things for God.”
