A Moment With Pastor Fred
I am always pleased hearing how friendly Holt Baptist Church is. It is sad when one visits a church and no one speaks to you. While we’ve been commended for our friendliness we can always improve. We don’t ever want to be guilty of becoming complacent. A friend posted five steps to a friendlier church. I share them below.
- Speak to the other person first. Don’t wait for someone else to take the lead.
- If you don’t know him/her – introduce yourself.
- Wear a pleasant expression.
- Take Will Roger’s testimony as a motto: “I never met a man I didn’t like.”
- Memorize and practice Proverbs 18:24, “A man that hath friends must show himself friendly.”
We can all benefit from such counsel. I’ve said this before. I’ve read that most people visiting a church decide whether to return within five minutes after arriving. That’s before I preach or sometimes before we sing the first song! That’s why it’s important to be a few minutes early to serve on the welcoming committee. So instead of coming in and talking to a few friends and finding your seat – look around. Find someone you’ve not met and introduce yourself. It is our prayer for HBC to be a church where people experience the love of Christ. That dear ones begins with you.
