A Moment With Pastor Fred
“We feel the way we feel for we feel the way we think.” Biblical counselor Jared Baergen has wonderfully listed some truths we must remind ourselves of during difficult times. Here’s what we must think about.
Remember:
- The unchanging character of God towards me, Ps 77:8-13.
- God has not abandoned me, Ps 37:28.
- God is using this for good, Gen 50:20.
- I am not God and do not fully understand his ways, Isa 55:8-9.
- God may use my suffering in unseen ways to bless others, 2 Cor 1:34.
- There are many reasons for me to be thankful, regardless of the circumstances, Ps 106:1.
- My situation isn’t exclusively unique to me, 1 Cor 10:13.
- The remaining sin in my heart is a bigger problem than my situation, Ja 1:2-4.
- It is my responsibility to continue to fight sin and pursue God, regardless of how I feel, Eph 6:10-13.
- Christ alone perfectly sympathizes with me in everything I’m going through, Heb 4:15.
- Jesus is coming back – waiting for him should motivate me to live properly, Phil 3:20-21.
- To pray even though it may hard, 1 Thess 5:17.
William Cowper’s hymn, “God Moves in Mysterious Ways” has so often brought comfort to me in days of dark providence. He writes, “Ye fearful saints fresh courage take, the clouds you so much dread are big with mercy and shall break in blessings on your head. Judge not the Lord by feeble sense, but trust him for his grace; behind a frowning providence, he hides a smiling face.”
