A Moment With Pastor Fred
Christmas falls on Sunday this year. The last time it fell on a Sunday some churches canceled their services. That was grievous to me. Yes, I know it’s Christmas, but it’s also the Lord’s Day. Some of you will be out of town. I understand, but if you’re going to be home this is meant for you.
Our family likes to gather to open presents Christmas morning and enjoy a nice brunch. Christmas morning is usually a tad hectic – and I know with it being on Sunday it will be even more hectic. Kevin DeYoung writes, “But maybe the normal festivities should not be deemed more important than the Festival itself. I want my family to know that we rearrange our schedule for corporate worship; we don’t expect corporate worship to be rearranged for us.” Yes, I love my family, but can’t we carve out an hour to worship the One who’s birthday we’re celebrating? DeYoung is pointed, “Family is a gift, not a god.”
May I encourage you to use Christmas Sunday as a means of inviting family to church? Our service is at 10:30 am – no SS/ABF allowing more time in the morning. We will dismiss by 11:30. What a testimony to say, “We’re going to church – it’s Jesus’ birthday. Come with us.”
This is the day we celebrate the incarnation, the birth of the Messiah, the Savior of the world. I want to sing. I want to praise him on this special day with God’s people. I hope to see you Christmas morning as we worship the King of kings.
