A Moment With Pastor Fred
I can still remember my dear mother telling me that it takes more muscles to frown than to smile. Christians don’t always have to be happy. Circumstances in life can produce unhappiness – yet we are called to constantly rejoice in the goodness and greatness of our God. Joy is based on my relationship with Jesus Christ. “Rejoice in the Lord always.” We who know Christ have experienced times of sadness. There’s nothing sinful about expressing our grief in appropriate ways. Yet we also can testify that God fills our hearts with inexhaustible joy at the same time!
However, with that understood smiles are still important.
Wise Solomon said laughter was like good medicine. Mom would quote a silly poem when I would pout. Many years have passed since those boyhood days. My mother has been with the Lord for 28 years but I still remember that poem.
A smile is quite a funny thing,
It wrinkles up your face.
And when it’s gone you never find
It’s secret hiding place.
But far more wonderful it is to see
What smiles can do;
You smile at one – he smiles at you,
And one smile makes two!
See, you’re smiling. It does work :)
Happy Mother’s Day!
