A Moment With Pastor Fred
He had wild hair, wore a T-shirt and ratty-looking blue jeans. He was a college student – bright and young. It was thru some ministry at the college he had trusted Christ. Across the street from the campus was a very conservative church. They wanted to develop a ministry to the students but were unsure how to go about it. One day this young man decided to attend there. He walked in, wild and wooly, as he was. The service had already started and so he walked down the aisle looking for a seat. All the men wore suits and ties – ladies dresses. This young man didn’t fit in – and he couldn’t find a seat. By now, people were looking a bit uncomfortable. As he got closer to the pulpit, he realized there were no seats, so he just sat down right on the carpet in the very front!
About this time, from way at the back of the church, a deacon slowly made his way toward this young man. This man was in his 80s, silver-gray hair. As he started toward this boy, everyone knew what would happen – the boy would be escorted to a pew. Besides, how could anyone expect a man of his age and background to understand some college kid sitting on the floor? The church was silent as they watched. Then this elderly man dropped his cane and with great difficulty, sat down next to the college kid so he wouldn’t be alone! When the pastor gained emotional control, he said, “What I’m about to preach, you will never remember. What you just saw, you will never forget.”
I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Eph 4:1-3.
