Just a Moment…
I love small groups. Small groups are an integral part of HBC. We don’t want to be a church with small groups but a church of small groups. This ministry isn’t designed to be social time or a dinner club. It’s aim is sanctification, about pursuing Christ-likeness.
HBC is committed to solid theological teaching yet we recognize a need for the Body to implement the “one anothers” of Scripture. The church must provide godly relationships which spur us on toward love, good deeds and daily encouragement.
Small groups meet the first and the third weeks of the month during the school year. They meet on different days, at various times and in homes. They usually last about an hour and a half. Discussion centers on questions concerning the Sunday sermon. Prayer also takes place. No doubt socializing occurs but this again isn’t our primary purpose. Each group determines how to handle childcare or whether or not food is involved. Small groups usually run between 9-13 people. We seek to be cross-generational and diverse. Our small group ministry resumes the week of September 17. If you wish to join a small group, please let Pastor Fred know.
Theologian Wayne Grudem writes, “Sanctification is usually a corporate process in the New Testament. It is something that happens in community.” The Bible would teach us we need to invite and pursue such involvement. Small groups is the vehicle that aids us in progressive sanctification. I hope and pray you will participate.
