Just a Moment
For many years Holt Baptist Church was the recipient of sister churches helping us in pulpit supply. Phil Dufrin (Covenant Life), Pat Quinn and Thurm Payton (University Reformed), Keith Sova and Tim Van Loh (South), Paul Pelle (at the time, First Baptist Okemos) set aside their Sunday ministries to come to speak here when I was on vacation. Believe me – sometimes it was hard to find someone to fill our pulpit, especially if the date was near a holiday. And there were a few times when I had to cut my vacation short because no one was available.
All that to say now we have the opportunity to be a blessing to churches in our area. Since Paul Krepps is preaching here today, I will be speaking at Calvary Baptist in Charlotte. Tim Potter is the solo pastor there and asked if I could fill in for him. And Pastor Anthony has been invited to help Brendan Holmquist out – his home-church pastor by preaching at Grove Bible next week. Allowing us these opportunities will be a big help to our sister churches. Of course, we never want to take advantage of your graciousness, but thankful we can be of help on these two occasions. Pray for these opportunities as we help build Christ’s church.
Our current series in these one-chapter books of the New Testament will end next month. Pastor Anthony and I are praying about where to go next. Several ideas have been discussed. Whichever book we choose, our desire to fulfill the admonition in Neh 8:8 will be certain. They read from the book, from the Law of God, clearly and they gave the sense, so that the people understood the reading.
