A Moment With Pastor Fred
“Heaven sounds awful boring to me.”
That was a comment made by a church member from another church many years ago. I was taken back to be honest. Heaven, boring? Hardly. I can’t remember exactly what I said but my answer was appropriate but not as good as the quote below by the Puritan pastor, Thomas Watson.
“If there be enough in God to satisfy the angels, then sure there is enough to satisfy us … Fresh joys spring continually from His face; and he is as much to be desired after millions of years by glorified souls as at the first moment. There is a fullness in God that satisfies and yet so much sweetness, that the soul still desires. God is a delicious good.”
Read that again. Mediate on it. God is truly the most desired treasure in the universe. Do you believe that?
How often we trade away his fellowship for the trinkets of this passing world. In the words of CS Lewis – we are too easily satisfied with our mud pies than a holiday at the beach. Christian friend, do you desire God? Do you really desire him? As the deer longs for a drink of water from the brook desire?
Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength. Ps 73:25-26.
