Just a Moment With Pastor Fred
One of or initiatives in the current three year plan is prayer. In two weeks we will conduct another Concert of Prayer at 9:30 am, July 30. A nursery will also be available.
It is interesting to study the prayers recorded for us in the Bible. Are Scripture’s prayer lists like ours? The typical church’s prayer list resembles an organ recital – my kidneys, my heart, my eyes. Not that it’s wrong to pray for our health, “casting all our cares upon him for he cares for you.” But prayer should go deeper than temporal needs.
We must pray for our eyes to be opened. Sadly eyes are often closed to spiritual realities and focused on trivial pursuits. Col 3:2, “Set your minds on things that are above, not on things on the earth.”
We must pray for others as an expression of love. One of the greatest things we can do for others is to pray for them.
Pray how? That they would grasp the hope of their calling, understand the riches of their inheritance and comprehend the greatness of God’s power.
We must pray with thanksgiving. Scripture often links praise and thankfulness to prayer. We live in a culture filled with ingratitude. .
May HBC be a church of prayer. Yes, we can pray privately – and we should and must but there is something unique when the church corporately prays together. Join us.
